GT Fishing Pond at Brother Fishing Pond, Perlis

Image
Su Yin with his first GT Handline rod! Landed a few GTs with eging setups and light setups. Really love using fun baits... Had a fun trip with Sherwin, Vinz and Su Yin over at Brother Fishing Pond in Perlis, Malaysia where we tested out the handline fishing rod, created by Jeff from RodStation. Instead of lures, we brought truck loads of fish bait like salmon, barramundi, groupers and the fish loved it.  Luring feels like a sham here, no skill or technique needed. Basically, once you start berleying, anything that went in resulted in a hook up and we got quite a bit of hits on spoons. @baktao Fishing for GT at Brother Fishing Pond, Perling with basic gears. Fishing at D'Best Fishing (also known as Pasir Ris Main Pond or PRMP) with Rubber Lures (Luring)

Image
Black Proberos soft rubber. Maybe I should buy in bulk, rebrand it and sell at 4x the cost. Maybe I'll call it sticky lake rubber. @baktao Went for a short trip at D'Best Pasir Ris Main fishing pond. #fishing #sgfishin #luring #singapore ♬ Oh no, oh no, oh no, no no - Hip Hop 15 years ago, fishing here was free I was 15 years old when I first fished at Pasir Ris Fishing Pond (back then it was just called as such) at Pasir Ris Town Park. I went there with a few of my secondary school friends and we caught dozens of huge tilapia. It was when there was no operator at the pond and you could simply fish for free. There were also a few pieces of the odd leftover fish and I remember catching a mangrove jack on bread. Introduction to D'Best Fishing Now after years of being run by different fishing pond operators, the pond now goes by the name of D'Best Fishing by D'Best Recreation. Old timers to the pond just simply remember it as Pasir Ris Main Pond (PRMP) for t...

Fishing at Barelang Fishing Pond (with trip itinerary and tips), Batam

Image
It's never easy for angler-couples with kids to go fishing. You bring the kid along, it doesn't really feel like quality fishing together. You leave the kid at home, you're basically confined to one day trips which can only mean fishing in Singapore. But... there's Batam too! At the now very famous Barelang Fishing Pond. It's a fairly inexpensive fishing venue, surrounded with nice restaurants, massage parlours, shopping malls and you bring rupiah. It's definitely easy to arrange too. I detail below three steps on how to arrange an affordable one day trip to Barelang Fishing Pond. 1. Pre-book a trusted driver with car for your one day trip There are many operators and drivers around. Just search around in Facebook and you'll find plenty. It is always a good idea to pre-book one as you'll be assured you have transport on that day! My driver was Aan +6281268187673 and he has WhatsApp. The fee to book Aan is $60 per day. Note that there are cheaper o...

Largemouth Bass Fishing in Singapore

Image
Kevin was the champion of the trip! Introduction Largemouth Bass in Singapore?! What's going on? I can safely say that many of us were pleasantly surprised when we heard about such a thing going on. Growing up, I used to play the Sega Pro Bass Fishing Game on the PC or in the arcade (man that feels). You know the one in the arcade where you have a rod and you could "cast" a crankbait? I guess it is exciting because the variety of techniques and lures that bass fishermen employ is quite astounding. Think of grubs, bugs, spinner baits, frogs...  So well, news got around the fishing community in Singapore towards the end of the year but as it was a private bass pond, it isn't so easy to get a slot (unless you're a certain guy called Chase). So lo and behold, we managed to get a slot on a Saturday morning and we were all buzzing. What to use? What to bring? These would be the questions in your head if you're going for such a trip. Now it was my first time there so...

Fishing Tips at Singapore's one and only GT (Giant Trevally) Pond also known as Angler's Playground Catch & Release

Image
So I finally made the trip to the famous Singapore GT fishing pond that has been around for years. Due to the pandemic, there's nowhere else to fish so I thought why not. Recently, the pond has had a change of owner and is now renamed to "Angler's Playground Catch & Release". To start off, do note that the pond is catch and release so you can't bring back your catches. To make up for it, the pond houses some huge fish like GTs, Groupers, Barramundi, Mangrove Jack and Golden Snappers. There's a certain way that the owners feed the fish and the tactical feeding means that the fish are extremely healthy but clever as well.  The fishing time is also rather short at 2 hours so while many anglers have gone in with their own way of doing things by bringing assorted poppers, hard bodied lures and so on, the best lures are still good ol' rubber lures.   You must also be wondering "what tackle do I bring?" The good news is that you don't need any h...

How to do night fishing at ORTO Fishing Paradise Bottle Tree Park?

Image
Made a few trips to ORTO Fishing Paradise (formerly Bottle Tree Park) during the heightened alert and found it quite relaxing and entertaining especially since "SNA" was involved. I mean who on earth plucks out his rod holder together with his rod when the fishes take the bait.  What's the best bait at Orto? Over the past few trips, we reviewed this and it was quite obvious that the fishes there love live bait. However, if your live bait is lampan, that's a bonus. Size must not be too big or too small and just right. Kinda like Goldilocks and the Three Bears.  Some tips at Orto. Hook sizes must be big at minimum 7/0 to be able to properly secure the bait and ensure hook up. Surprise though, we dropped some barramundi aka KBL on rubber lures during the trip. Anyway, I still don't enjoy the fight of the fishes here. What I like is how the fishing is similar to live baiting for toman and sailfish. Opening the bail arm, letting the line go out and closing the bail and...

Fishing at Orto Fishing Paradise with the "Sometimes Machiam Expert"

Image
Torpedo Rohu Fishing in Singapore has been seriously boring and dull due to the pandemic. We aren't allowed to go overseas and there has been the constant pivoting to arrange local offshore fishing trips amidst safe distancing restrictions.  I mean it's so boring that I even found time to try out Orto Fishing Paradise with Ah Du a.k.a Sharkbait a.k.a "Sometimes Machiam Expert". Did I enjoy myself? Yes... I think so. I learned quite a bit of new techniques and insights although the pond being a catch and release one was a minus for me. (Sorry, I'm now a fully fledged baiting unker) What I did learn though was... Big baits work! Especially the resident lampans... Big baits work for the Chao Phraya Catfish (CPC) at Orto. I think these fish are even more bored than us but will definitely chomp on big baits. Maybe it's also them being aggressive but since Orto is filled with lampans, it is only natural that it would be an awesome bait for the catfish. Use small bai...

Aunty Fishing Pond with Kraken Gear Ah Du

Image
It's not everyday that you visit a fishing pond in Singapore since there are so many fishing options available. However, that is before the pandemic struck and fishing in Singapore has somewhat been affected by it since local fishing charters seem to be overbooked. Some boats are fully booked for a year. So enter paypond fishing! Made a trip to the trusty "Aunty Pond" in Neo Tiew. It's a rather quaint and private fishing pond tucked in the country side which made it more rustic and relaxing compared to openly public ones like Pasir Ris Pro Pond or even Gills Fishing. I think everyone is quite familiar with the pond in the local Singapore Fishing scene so I'll just post what I learned below.  1. Hit the fishes when they are feeding! Fish in the pond are not as "artificial" as you think they are. There are certain times where they have adjusted to the water condition and are in "feeding mode". It's very important to make use of this time to b...
