Singapore Fishing: Sam Law and Ah Fong Fishing Updates (2024)

Image
Combined Saw Law Fishing and Ah Fong Fishing Updates (2024) So the group managed to pull together some Sam Law and Ah Fong fishing trips (local Singapore fishing trips) over the past few months. I haven't managed to update due to being super busy, so posting a few photos to archive the trips! One of our most recent trips. Not fantastic size but decent quantity of snappers with Sam Law. Sabiki rigs were working too. It was my first time using sabiki the whole day and I was quite satisfied to catch a few fish. Jigs were working that day! Another angle of the fish Bad trip, not much fish... But I scored two snappers on jigs, jackall 100g :) Another one fell for the jackall 100g And a decent sized parrotfish for me! Jon caught a good stingray on abu conolon! The catch tanked that day though... Special guest threadfin! Greedy hybrid grouper took both our baits... Celeste with a monster mangrove jack... probably about 4kg Photos don't do the monster MJ justice... Also the discovery o...

I couldn't make it for this trip but the live updates from the guys were very exciting. They finished their prawns after lunch and had to go to the farm to top up prawns.  Beautiful snapper. Who says jigging not possible at Changi? We hereby named him ang cho kiat~! Baiters didn't xia suay also lah Kiat was the hero on this trip, scoring a good sized ang cho aka golden snapper on jig. Purist jigging style came up tops!

Ah Fong Changi Fishing in August 2023

It's been some time since we hit a decent haul off Changi waters. So this one really felt sweet. The most effective fishing method was fishing right off the bottom with tenya and bottom hugging techniques.

Pulau Ubin Barramundi Luring and Changi Mangrove Jack Fishing

We joined experienced Singapore angler Jimmy Lim for a day of lure fishing around Pulau Ubin and Changi . The fishing plan involved two different approaches. We first cast lures around the mangrove areas of Pulau Ubin in search of barramundi before trolling around Changi Carpark 7 and Changi Bayview for mangrove jack. Singapore Lure Fishing Trip Details Fishing locations: Pulau Ubin and Changi Angler: Jimmy Lim Fishing methods: Casting artificial lures and trolling Target species: Barramundi and mangrove jack Fishing environment: Mangroves and coastal waters Barramundi Luring at Pulau Ubin Pulau Ubin’s mangrove environment provides the type of structure commonly associated with barramundi. Fallen branches, mangrove edges, current lines and changes in water depth can all provide ambush points for predatory fish. We worked artificial lures around the likely holding areas while fishing with Jimmy. Accurate casting was important because the fish could be positioned cl...

Bring Kids Fishing goes to Ah Fong's Changi Offshore Fishing!

Image
Wonderful day to be out at sea today as a friend brought his kid out for some fishing. The lad is totally into fishing and has wonderful sea legs. Bite rate wasn't that great but we had some fun fishing with Ah Fong. Those who know me will know that I am passionate about bringing kids out fishing but through the parents or guardians as it is more sustainable. Bringing kids fishing or teaching them fishing also shouldn't be about profit making, no matter how well you argue the sustainability case. Some things are better off like that. For Ah Fong Fishin contact, go to  https://baktao.blogspot.com/2021/08/7-recommended-fishing-charters-and-cost-sharing-boat-in-singapore.html Oh yes, after fishing, we had a great time eating some freshly caught fish!

Bubu Fishing in Singapore with Jeff Tsen: Fish Trap Catch Reports

Image
After our previous Singapore bubu fish trap fishing trip with Jeff Tsen , several fishing kakis asked if they could experience it for themselves. We invited some newcomers to join us on several trips to learn more about this traditional method of bubu fishing in Singapore . Not every trip produced a spectacular catch, but the traps still yielded an interesting variety of fish. Like conventional rod-and-line fishing, bubu fishing is affected by location, tide, weather, bait movement and luck. What Is Bubu Fishing? A bubu is a traditional fish trap placed on the seabed. Fish enter through a funnel-shaped opening and may have difficulty finding their way out. Unlike rod-and-line fishing, the trap is left in the water before being retrieved later. The anticipation comes when the crew reaches the location, secures the line and begins pulling the bubu towards the surface. Fishing method: Traditional bubu fish trap Location: Singapore waters Captain: Jeff Tsen from RodStatio...
