Sibu Kelong On 14 February 2011

The waves and stormy weather is gone! But are the fish still around? Apparently they are! I'm was off to Sibu again during the weekend for 3 days this time. We had breakfast at a 24 hours eatery and sped on to the jetty. We had a speedboat ride again but this time it was pretty calm!

Breakfast time!!

Beautiful Kelong...

There were only 14 people at the kelong. We went to Ah Ngan Kelong this time round. It was low tide when i arrived and there were little baitfish to be jigged. Todak are by the hundreds. There was this group of Malaysians spinning baitfish and caught lots of todaks. What do you know? This guy spinned a miss wong and a Queen took his bait!

A beautiful queen...

Best of all... he spinned another miss wong and a COBIA came to get his bait!!! The Cobia swam in and as i prepared to gaff it for him, it dive right under the kelong... I was thinking that's it... It's over. Then these few Malaysians came over and stamped on the kelong saying it will drive the fish out.. It really worked !!.... And the fish came out to get the gaff by me.

A beautiful specimen... which took a miss wong on the surface... talk about luck...

Wacky idea live baitwell....

Both afternoons were filled with Selar, Kuning and another baitfish. We had fun jigging them on light tackle. And by saying filled... i mean they were there by the thousands! It was drop down and multiple fishes up! Some buckets for comparison!

On the last day morning, we had fun with the rabbit fish aka pei tor. They are now there by the thousands. Use fish meat cubes like Todak, Selar etc. It's the most effective for Laimung and Pei Tor.

Food during the trip...

In the nights, some of the Malaysians played with the fireworks... we had a real good watch in the night... It's amazing to spend the kelong in the night... total darkness and fireworks erupt above you...

Something strange happened in the night too... A saitoh(wolf herring) took my squid jig!!! But there were no squids around though. playing with lures and jigs proved good for beltfish, barracuda and saitoh misses. Unfortunately, many were dropped on the way back...

And yup... we had our ramly burger on the way back!!! It's beginning to become a custom... Btw i hope the quickly written CR was not too bad... Am very busy this month and next as my exams are up soon...

Cheers everyone! Ah Tiong Pond, PRPP Pole rod (again) CR next...
