Tanjung Pinang Boat Fishing Catch Report from Elly Kelong Part 1
After a night of uneasiness and unrest on how this trip will turn up, i met up with the crew at long last. We were generally early again and we were to take a new ferry to Tanjung Pinang this time. We got the tickets and proceeded to our ferry "Wan Seri Beni". If this name sounds familiar to you, then make no mistake... we are taking a Bintan Resort Ferry! Now, the advantages of taking this ferry are simple. No icebox restrictions(although there were some weight limits haha at the end) and numerous ferry timings which included the 0810hrs ferry we were taking and the 1635 one we were taking back.
We reached Tanjung Pinang at 0900hrs and waited for Elly's drivers to pick us up. The journey to Elly was around 40 minutes in which we bought our groceries and ate our lunch at Oceanbay.

We moved fast and met up with our Captain later in his boat. He told us there was little chance of any carpet and that the fishes would be mixed. Somehow, the topic of Ang Kuey came about and it seemed like we managed to "coerce" the Captain into bringing us to the land of the Ang Kuey which was further than the Island.
Anyhows, we stopped by the Island reef area for some fishing first. I knew the Captain liked to "WHACK" parrots so this probably would be one. Weiyee landed a fish quickly and the confidence of the crew was high during this time. The Captain landed a small parrot and bulat on his Sabiki. Then came a thunderous take on Sim's surecatch rod (really surecatch) and the fight was on. After he set the hook, the fish was not stopping at all! The fish took out line stubbornly and got itself stuck on some rocks. The line burst later and a devastated Sim was saying that this was the second time he was bullied since last year.

Sim did not give up and let down his lines again. The drag on his Daiwa Saltist 30T was pumped up this time and he waited patiently. The take came again but it was less ferocious than the previous take. Nevertheless, it took out a good amount of line but after it had came a few metres of the bottom, it could not play its dirty tricks anymore. Up came an extremely vibrant looking Parrot...

Even the berley cage was out!
Everyone was now holding their rods in anticipation but the fish knew where to strike. It picked on AG who was using a light jigging setup with bait. The fish took out a massive amount of line and we could all hear the ZzZzzt line peeling sound which came out from her Daiwa Freams J 4500. Luckily, the fish could not find any snag and AG pumped it above the danger zone. Alas, 5 Minutes into the fight, the fish got off the hook and another parrot went back into its rocky home.
It was nearing evening time now and all of us went back into our bunks at it was a few hours ride to the night fishing spot.
Any yes... The deckie is TROLLING with... HANDLINE!

What is the difference between the Kurau (Indian Threadfin) and Senangin (Blue Threadfin Salmon)?

This new pond has replaced the former Gills Fishing. I guess this is good news as there is so little fishing ponds left in Singapore now. Marina South Singapore Fishing Spot (Eging and Shore Jigging Recce)
Marina South has always been a favourite fishing spot in Singapore. In the past, we would go settle our dinner at the Marina South buffet steamboat and then head off to the water breakers to crank deep diver lures. In fact, I remember a memory of having my popper being taxed from me one of those times we went luring there! Another fairly famous fishing spot were the freshwater ponds just next to the saltwater side. Quite a fair bit of haruan (snakehead) and tarpon in there! Ok back to the topic. I finally had time to go for a full recce of the Marina South fishing areas. It's quite amazing that there are no restrictions for fishing almost the entire Marina South coast and it makes shore casting, eging, ajing and microjigging so much more fun.
