After a brief visit to the Ang Mo spot last week with Weiyee, me and Momok got all fired up about going back again to visit the Peacock Bass there. Last week was bad as the water condition was very dirty and reminded me of Milk Tea. It seemed like last week's condition was better because today's condition was like caramel sauce! The water had a pungent smell to it and it was so muddy that the once "Amazon" River had become Nee Soon drain!
Nevertheless, we continued on and did not stop to fish at the Peacock holes... We proceeded straight to the Ang Mo spot knowing that such water might permit the huge Tomans to feed more actively. We loved the Ang Mo spot because it was just too pristine and untouched. We could hear the birds and monkeys call... no rumble of urban life here...
Momok had a baby landed almost instantly... it was a pretty fat one...
But...After casting for around 1 hr... we had no more fish and were wondering what was wrong. Could it be that the water is really too dirty or are the fish simply not feeding? In the past, we would have landed a number of fish by now. Momok borrowed my scumfrog and had a few good takes including a small mama but none was landed.
Well, no matter because while we were fishing, i heard little splashes below some submerged bushes... and lo and behold... A big school of Toman fry emerged to cruise right below us! Momok came right away with his scum frog and by then i had a few bites on my crawdad rubber. Knowing it was a good chance for a video, I took out my camera to capture the moment... Keke...
When there's no fish... a Toman fry school will keep you contented... We had some fun for awhile but eventually the school swam away... Hehehe...
We got out of the hole and fished along the river entrance but there was no fish interested. The water was too muddy and the wind was blowing the water crazy. Then, we decided to spin our flys next to a great clump of bushes and fallen logs as we saw a school of fish around the area... We were given a pleasant surprise when we were rewarded with Temensis after Temensis... They are juveniles but they are still Temensis right... Hehehe... It's only a matter of time before they grow up to be big and infest the waters... just like the ones at Mac...
We landed at least 10 of them with Momok and his white fly the champion of the session...
We bashed out just before sundown and had a chance to fish at another muddy hole. The fishes were all stationed right beside the sunken debris and we kept getting Juvenile Temensis with almost every cast... There's a video on this... It will be shared privately with friends... End of the way we caught so much Temensis that we lost count... Give it a few months, we'll have Temensis paradise...

What is the difference between the Kurau (Indian Threadfin) and Senangin (Blue Threadfin Salmon)?

Simple Offshore Fishing Rig (Can be done in 60 seconds or less!)
I have a simple offshore fishing rig to share that I use widely in my offshore fishing. it is very simple to tie and I usually can tie it under 20 seconds. It is especially useful if you need to tie multiple rigs for your friends or family. It is also tested and proven for a wide variety of fishes in Changi or Southern waters... You can vary the length of your snood depending on whether you are anchoring or drifting but usually, I'd suggest a general snood length of 30 - 50cm as you can use it for all situations. This rig is very dependable as it does not use any knots to join any snoods together. The whole rig is based on a "one line" one piece concept so it's a really tough cookie! The only weakness so far is that the bottom (sinker) loop may be damaged over time if you keep getting snagged. Also, if big fish takes the rig, the loop might close up and you may have a very ugly rig! Limitations of this rig also is that is a bottom feeder rig... but that's us...

Extra Large Flower Crabs from NTUC (Simple Steam Recipe)
I just gotta have my big flower crabs because I simply miss the fresh sweet taste... Ever since I stop doing crabbing in Singapore because of lack of good crabbing spots, I turned to NTUC... Luckily, Bukit Panjang Plaza NTUC sometimes has surprises during the flower crab season and this time I chanced upon some very large male and female flower crabs on sale at $12/kg. These were not live and were covered with shaved ice... but no matter because they were fairly fresh (for flower crabs standards) and they were super meaty at an average of 800g a crab! Extra large sizes! The females were huge too! I bought about 10 big crabs and went home to prepare simple ingredients for a quick steam. Since these crabs are already dead and chilled, quickly cook them as soon as possible... If you are not planning to cook them today, simply chuck them in the freezer. I clean crabs myself so I had no trouble preparing them for the steam! If you do not know how to clean crabs... here's how...
