Sibu Kelong Washing Machine 2 - 4 July
This trip wasn't that productive in terms of catch but it was quite an eye opener for some of the group. Momok's family members had a good time pulling up Kunnings, Leng Chiams, Halfbeaks and Todaks... A reader of my blog didn't get to go on this trip as he was working and i guess you should count yourself lucky Joseph... Hehe...
We stopped by an eatery on the way to Tanjung Leman. I loved their fried chicken wing and Mee Goreng.
It was a washing machine of a trip. The conditions were really deceiving when we first reached Tanjung Lehman Jetty... calm blue waters from the jetty even. Mirror surface waters amidst a small morning sea breeze. I guess you can call it the perfect serene weather before the storm.
I challenge you to a sotong duel!
We managed to fish peacefully until late afternoon when the rain and winds struck head on. I even managed to get some squid before lunch. We had a pleasant surprise though... Durians! We had some FOC Durians courtesy of our Durian Opener/Fish Monger(You will know why later) MOMOK!
According to the kelong workers, it hasn't rained much for 2 months already and a smile came to me at that. Unlike Singapore which doesn't have blue water, rain will trigger feeding frenzies at Sibu. Fishes like Potato fish suddenly like your Sabiki... Squids suddenly appear at all corners...
Well, it was like that at first... I was out in the heavy rain with my goretex jacket and doing my usual eging. i got quite a few squids under the super heavy downpour even. Can you imagine the water being so choppy on the surface with white caps... yet the squid are feeding at the bottom. I learnt much during that few minutes... that i did... I got more squids during the night and i even had one spaceship. They were active and surprisingly above average sized... But just as we thought the rain would stop... it didn't.
It continued to rain head on all night until the next morning and even when the rain died down, it was still drizzling non stop. By morning, the fish and squid were sluggish and obviously it was a little too much freshwater. These fellas weren't affected though... but their cousins the Todaks were... although we landed some anyway...
I managed to get another spaceship up but it dropped while being gaffed... too bad for that...
Bad sotong catch aside, i managed to get double and triple fat leng chiams on my noodle rod... It was good fun that... I also managed to get my first fat leng chiam by casting out fresh sotong strips... It stood no chance on the Caldia 3k and Seahawk PE 3- 6 though...

What is the difference between the Kurau (Indian Threadfin) and Senangin (Blue Threadfin Salmon)?

Name and Terminology Kurau is known as Indian Giant Threadfin salmon/Kurau/黑午鱼/Orh Ngor Senangin is known as Blue Threadfin salmon/Senangin/白午鱼/Pek Ngor/Ngor Soon Eating Quality Kurau is known the more premium species and is a popular fish for maternity purposes as it is believed to boost milk supply for new mothers.
