Crabbing in Singapore at not so secret crabbing spot at Pasir Ris Api Api

Weiyee finally has a chance to do some fishing and so we arranged for some last minute night fishing on Friday night but after the downpour in the afternoon, we changed our plans. Actually it was freshwater baiting and then surf casting but eventually we settled on crabbing. Grabbed all the crabbing stuff from my place and we did a quick drive down to some mangrove areas for crabbing. We thought we could still access the deep mangrove area but it seems the trees have all overgrown and inaccessible.

So we settled for the more civilized area for crabbing and went about to do our setting up. We are using batu bait fish as bait. This is one of my favourite bait fish to use for crabbing as it is cheap, smelly, oily and lasts relatively long. I got many crabs on batu fish so i was confident of this bait.

We setup a few sphere bubu cages and only one square bubu with the rest being the bamboo crab nets. For the bubus, we bashed as close to the mangrove as possible and threw them as deep inside as possible hoping they won't get stuck... lol...

We are very early it's low tide starting to pick up... We just take things as it is and relax one corner... After 15 minutes, we are very itchy and went to check the bamboo nets... wow I had a dozen leaves and one crab on my net... It was not big but it was still eatable size much bigger than the Geylang crabbing pond sizes...kekeke...

Halfway through crabbing a friend of mine Ceelee MMS-ed me a picture... without evening looking i knew what it is already... he invited me to fish Bukom area tonight offshore but I turned down the offer as I was having my night classes. The MMS was a picture of a big fat grouper wow... Can feel a little bit of sour taste on my tongue already...

Within the next 5 mins, another MMS! This time it was a Golden Snapper....!!!

We distracted ourselves and went to retrieve the bubus and hit jackpot in one of the cages...

The tide picked up and from then on it was just small flower crabs which came to visit us. I usually would release these flower crabs but this time I had a new recipe for them. Don't worry 99% of the small crab will be eaten. I will be cooking Tempura crab... If you are a softshell crab, stingray cartilage, prawn shell or even meat tendon lover you will know what i mean... Hehe...

No more MMS from the offshore side so we were not itchy... went to check a few more rounds and got another muddie in the pot but the pot was stuck on the mangroves.. Luckily after 20 mins of stunt and torchlight... we got it out...

The sky got orange and from a distance we can see the rain pouring and getting nearer... I looked at Weiyee and he looked at me... We both knew what to do... We cut the mission right before the downpour started to get worse.... So much for the offshore... Hope they are doing alright...

Harvest...

Oh yes... Dinner tonight will be black pepper crabs and tempura crab... Yum Yum...

Tempura crab... 100% can eat everything... crispy and tasty!!!
