Trolling, Madai (Tai Kabura), Inchiku and a little baiting with Jimmy's On IT'S Gr-R-Reat!
One day, on Facebook, somehow, someway I managed to land myself on a fishing page "Fishing on IT'S Gr-R-Reat". I thought to myself... this guy Jimmy sounds very familiar. As I scrolled through the catches, I suddenly remembered... Oh yes this is the boatman that does trolling and it's the very same boat that Alan Chan asked me on a few years back. I couldn't make it for the trip then and he landed a Barracuda on lure as big as himself!
Somehow, someway, suddenly... I striked up a casual conversation with Jimmy on Facebook and suddenly, suddenhow, excitingly... I placed a deposit with him and the very first trip with Jimmy was planned! The kakis were also a mixed bag of excitement - Kiat whom recently just got poisoned on artificials during offshore and Ah Biao - whom hasn't fished for almost 2 years!
We were told to prepare some shallow divers like Halco sorceror and we did.... except that we brought a few madais, inchikus and micro jigs as well hehehe....
The wind was quite strong in the afternoon but we managed to up some groupers and snappers on madai jigs...
It wasn't such a good day for me but it was a great day for Kiat (who landed all fishes on artificials) and ah biao (whom scored double whammy on his madai!). I also found out the fish scent spray works wonders on madai jigs! Ah Biao tried that and look what he got!
Trolling was extremely fun though and me ah biao lost a few good fish.... I lost a crazy take - the fish hit with such force that my rod almost fell off my hands. After striking and pumping it out from the snags, I finally thought this fish was up for sure as the hook up was firm and the fish was in safer waters away from the snags... BUT...the Halco Sorceror lure gave way... and I was only returned the lure bib... what a pity! Suspected a monster Mangrove Jack? Also got bullied on the last troll when a Barracuda bust me off during the take.... oh man, it has been awhile since I've been "bullied" by the fishes! The feeling of helplessness makes me want to go back for more punishment!
Jimmy is a good caring rockstar captain - gave us plenty of advices and always ready to help when you have a problem. From the way he talks, you could see this was a CNR guy and his pictures on his Facebook are not censored which shows how open he is with his fishing. Great mindset this! Looking forward to the next trip!

What is the difference between the Kurau (Indian Threadfin) and Senangin (Blue Threadfin Salmon)?

This post aims to enable you to know the difference. Name and Terminology Kurau is known as Indian Giant Threadfin salmon/Kurau/黑午鱼/Orh Ngor Senangin is known as Blue Threadfin salmon/Senangin/白午鱼/Pek Ngor/Ngor Soon Eating Quality Kurau is known the more premium species and is a popular fish for maternity purposes as it is believed to boost milk supply for new mothers. It is rare and big sized fish are hard to come by these days. Generally costs more than Senangin. Senangin is less premium and is readily available in the market in various sizes. In case you all don't know yet, a new prawning pond has opened at 10 Neo Tiew Lane 2! Called Olden Days Prawning, the prawning pond is opened daily and 24 hours. What was the most surprising for me is their current price for prawning. They are doing it at 1 hour - $9.99, 2 hours - $15.99 and 3 hours - $19.99. Fishing at Barelang Fishing Pond (with trip itinerary and tips), Batam
It's never easy for angler-couples with kids to go fishing. You bring the kid along, it doesn't really feel like quality fishing together. You leave the kid at home, you're basically confined to one day trips which can only mean fishing in Singapore. But... there's Batam too! At the now very famous Barelang Fishing Pond. It's a fairly inexpensive fishing venue, surrounded with nice restaurants, massage parlours, shopping malls and you bring rupiah. It's definitely easy to arrange too. I detail below three steps on how to arrange an affordable one day trip to Barelang Fishing Pond. 1. Pre-book a trusted driver with car for your one day trip There are many operators and drivers around. Just search around in Facebook and you'll find plenty. Marina South Singapore Fishing Spot (Eging and Shore Jigging Recce)
Marina South has always been a favourite fishing spot in Singapore. In the past, we would go settle our dinner at the Marina South buffet steamboat and then head off to the water breakers to crank deep diver lures. In fact, I remember a memory of having my popper being taxed from me one of those times we went luring there! Another fairly famous fishing spot were the freshwater ponds just next to the saltwater side. Quite a fair bit of haruan (snakehead) and tarpon in there! Ok back to the topic. I finally had time to go for a full recce of the Marina South fishing areas. It's quite amazing that there are no restrictions for fishing almost the entire Marina South coast and it makes shore casting, eging, ajing and microjigging so much more fun.
