Fishing For Grouper with Boatman Shawn At Sembawang Park

One of the lonely weekends, the gang of 3 kakis took to the water again. With our odd combination of Kiat in his Hobie i9S and Boatman Shawn's Kairos Kaboat, we once again proved that finding good fish while kayak fshing in Singapore is definitely possible. With Kayak fishing, fishing spots are unlimited and you do not need a fishing charter or paypond to plan your fishing trip.

We launched from Sembawang Park again which is a popular launching area now due to the beach being very close to the parking area. There is even some stairs down to the beach which solo kayakers can make use of.

Kiat impressed all the newbie kayakers taking their one star kayak course at sembawang again with his Hobie mirage drive which uses leg power! I think by now all the surfcasters fishing at the beach are so used to seeing kayakers launch from sembawang beach that we don't usually get "checked out" anymore!

Thats what we live for
Fishing with Boatman Shawn. Always great easy going company

I had a plan for today's tide and the plan worked out fine although we made a slow start. We drifted around some reefs and dropoffs. Kiat was first rewarded and he called us to report the catch. We went over promptly to find him smiling and making funny gestures. He caught himself a grouper which was about 1.5kg... But he lost his kayak anchor while he was fighting the fish! The grouper took a live prawn.

Later on, we anchored at one of the spots which I identified when boatman shawn and me were drift fishing. I identified the spot with much coral and dropoffs using madai jig and decided to head back there for a try. It was a good move as the moment my live prawn hit the bottom, i got a hit! Up came a 1kg grouper!

Kiat also had a good take and the fish dashed into the rocks! Thankfully, the fish gave up and came out of the hole... a 2kg plus green eyed orange spotted malabar grouper!

We brought back all the fishes for dinner and had a funny moment when our fish keeper was floating away from the kayak.... hahahaha luckily someone's mainline was snagged onto the fish keeper....

Anyway, we had a great day and even saw friends from Yak Attack out on the sea... Mathew as usual with his gopro.... they had a good catch with some sicklefish aka chao xi and giant guhood aka grunter landed near sembawang kelong....

That's all for now! Oh yea.... Grouper Hong Kong steamed at Kimly Seafood at Bukit Panjang Block 163
