Handline GT Fishing at Brother Fishing Pond, Johor Bahru

Image
We visited Brother Fishing Pond in Taman Perling, Johor Bahru , for a fun session targeting giant trevally with light tackle and a handline fishing rod. Sherwin, Vinz, Su Yin and I made the short trip across the border to test a handline rod created by Jeff from RodStation. Instead of bringing only the usual lures, we arrived with plenty of interesting fish baits, including salmon, barramundi and grouper. The fish certainly seemed to enjoy our unusual bait selection! Jeju Hirasuzuki Fishing Guide: Blackfin Seabass in Korea

Image
Our hirasuzuki fishing experience on Jeju Island, South Korea. I never imagined that I would go fishing in Korea. When the opportunity to fit some fishing into our Jeju family holiday appeared, I could not say no. The goal was to catch and eat hirasuzuki, commonly known in English as blackfin seabass. I had heard mixed opinions about its fighting ability, but I was extremely curious about how a wild Korean hirasuzuki would taste. To make the trip possible, I engaged Hyunwook, also known as Duke, as my fishing guide in Jeju . He speaks English, knows the local shore fishing locations and provided the equipment needed for the trip. Jeju Hirasuzuki Fishing Trip Details Location: Jeju Island, South Korea Fishing base: Seogwipo Main target: Hirasuzuki, or blackfin seabass Fishing style: Night shore luring and rock fishing Guide: Hyunwook, also known as Duke Equipment: Provided by the fishing guide Trip type: Fishing experience during a family holiday C...

Pulau Ubin Barramundi Luring and Changi Mangrove Jack Fishing

We joined experienced Singapore angler Jimmy Lim for a day of lure fishing around Pulau Ubin and Changi . The fishing plan involved two different approaches. We first cast lures around the mangrove areas of Pulau Ubin in search of barramundi before trolling around Changi Carpark 7 and Changi Bayview for mangrove jack. Singapore Lure Fishing Trip Details Fishing locations: Pulau Ubin and Changi Angler: Jimmy Lim Fishing methods: Casting artificial lures and trolling Target species: Barramundi and mangrove jack Fishing environment: Mangroves and coastal waters Barramundi Luring at Pulau Ubin Pulau Ubin’s mangrove environment provides the type of structure commonly associated with barramundi. Fallen branches, mangrove edges, current lines and changes in water depth can all provide ambush points for predatory fish. We worked artificial lures around the likely holding areas while fishing with Jimmy. Accurate casting was important because the fish could be positioned cl...

Barramundi Fishing at Sembawang Coastline

Image
"Net, net! Drag on the beach. Woohoo! Uncle Du, you are amazing!" I was super far when I heard the commotion and I ran over as fast as I could. When I got there, the scene was a little of relief and amazement. I think Ah Du also didn't believe it. After 5 years of trying, he finally got what he wanted – a wild barramundi from the shoreline. This, after missing a gigantic one on topwater pencil just half an hour ago. We got down to the beach to properly land the fish and took a few photos for keepsake. Had a few laughs and texted Sherwin to rub it in. Master Du with a 60cm beauty Push out technique used by YPs to exaggerate fish size.  Very useful if you want the fish in focus. Haha baiter caught a small kim! I managed the small barramundi and two ang cho kees! Enjoy the video: @baktao "Kin, kin!" D’Best Fishing Pasir Ris Main Pond (PRMP): Night Luring Tips and Catch Report

Image
Black Proberos soft rubber. Maybe I should buy in bulk, rebrand it and sell it at four times the cost. Maybe I'll call it Sticky Lake Rubber. We returned to D'Best Fishing at Pasir Ris Main Pond for a night luring session using soft-plastic rubber lures. This Singapore fishing pond has a long history, and older anglers may still know it as Pasir Ris Main Pond, or PRMP. This catch report covers our luring approach, tackle, lure colours, retrieval methods and observations from different parts of the pond. We mainly encountered barramundi, although anglers around us also caught snapper, mangrove jack and grouper. @baktao Went for a short night luring trip at D'Best Pasir Ris Main Fishing Pond. #fishing #sgfishing #luring #singapore Fishing at Pasir Ris Main Pond 15 Years Ago I was 15 years old when I first fished at Pasir Ris Fishing Pond , as it was know...

Largemouth Bass Fishing in Singapore

Image
Kevin was the champion of the trip! Introduction Largemouth Bass in Singapore?! What's going on? I can safely say that many of us were pleasantly surprised when we heard about such a thing going on. Growing up, I used to play the Sega Pro Bass Fishing Game on the PC or in the arcade (man that feels). You know the one in the arcade where you have a rod and you could "cast" a crankbait? I guess it is exciting because the variety of techniques and lures that bass fishermen employ is quite astounding. Think of grubs, bugs, spinner baits, frogs...  So well, news got around the fishing community in Singapore towards the end of the year but as it was a private bass pond, it isn't so easy to get a slot (unless you're a certain guy called Chase). So lo and behold, we managed to get a slot on a Saturday morning and we were all buzzing. What to use? What to bring? These would be the questions in your head if you're going for such a trip. Now it was my first time there so...

Upper Seletar Reservoir Legal Fishing Ground October 2020

Image
It's not often that I go freshwater luring fishing in Singapore. I probably do that once or only twice a year. And it's because of the lack of time, lack of excitement and that I simply cannot go to non conventional spots anymore and we all know how much difference that makes. There comes a time though that you just want to wet your lines and then there are a few fish that appear to entertain you. That happened today at USR legal fishing ground (can you believe it?) as the schooling Temensis (or Peacock Bass or whatever you call it) came within casting distance and were basically taking jigs and lures the moment they saw them. Talk about not needing any skill at all. It was really fun though as Shawn and me reminisced about those times we regularly went for freshwater fishing sorties... Not much tips here. Simply cast near or into the school and you'll get a hit. If you can't reach them, try jigs, spoons and heavy rubbers to get the distance. Shawn and me last count on ...
