Short visit to Ah Hua Fishing and Prawning

Image
They have pole fishing and prawning Clean pond and fairly spacious More pictures of the location Pole fishing! Go to the counter to get your rods Water is clear and you can see this prawn hiding in the hole lol Prawns are mostly medium sized. Resident parrot! Fish feeding at $1 per small bag. Not very economical to dump everything in lol We had some time the other day and went to visit Ah Hua Fishing on a weekday morning to do some prawning. I also brought the kiddo there to do some fish feeding and it was rather fun as Ah Hua also brought his parrot out for the kiddo to play. The way the place is setup is nice and laidback, with a bit of a kampong vibe and feels different from those urban prawning locations in Singapore. Some thoughts about the place: ➡️ Water is very clear. Can see many prawns. It is rather rare that operators will not add "colouring" to their pond so that people don't know how many prawns there are. Ah Hua's pond water is clear and you can literall...

Prawning at 1Ders Recreation, D Kranji Farm Resort (Neo Tiew)

Image
Prawning catches in Singapore have been on the slide since this hobby got popular. Prawn ponds these days stock up more small prawns and don't release as much prawns as before. The bridge concept Very big pond. Big for usual prawning pond standards Lemon herb seasoning & curry powder BBQ time! Nothing like fresh prawns? All is not lost though and to my surprise, this humble small pond at D Kranji Farm Resort are stocking up big blue mountain prawns and are very generous in releasing prawns. I got a very decent catch and I wasn't even trying. Five things to note below: The management of the pond were very friendly and serves you with a smile. Another interesting feature of the pond is that it also provides curry powder as a seasoning and the MSG made the prawns more flavorful as we grilled them! The tagged prawn system is very logical and down to earth. Simply get cash when you catch tagged prawns. This is good as it is not the usual get free ho...

Prawning for Yabbies at Orto, Bottle Tree Park

Image
"It just isn't productive anymore" I came from an era where prawning produces very large prawns and each person would get around 30-50 prawns for every 3 hours of prawning even though they may be beginners at prawning. The prawning costs are usually 3hrs - $30 and it was a whole lot of fun. After some sporadic prawning trips to Jurong Haibin and Orto, Bottle Tree Park, I somehow feel that prawning isn't productive anymore and the trend seems to be dying off. So if you were into prawning last time and going to visit a prawning pond soon, do lower your expectations. Orto - Bottle Tree Park   Orto at Bottle Tree Park came across as a very experienced prawning operations setup in the ever popular Bottle Tree Park at Khatib. Bottle Tree Park is also where Fishing Paradise is operating. At first glance, you could see space maximization, efficient operation setup and impressive use of technology to ease operations. Rods were tagged using bar codes, there was NE...

Haibin Prawning at Jurong Hill (Jurong Birdpark)

Image
Finally! A Prawning post... Everyone's itchy for some prawning fun these days but the location that you can do prawning with good catch rate seems to be so few these days... That's why I was pleasantly surprised that Haibin Jurong prawning ponds had good sized, big blue mountain and thai prawns! The quantity was not amazing as compared to the old Bishan Haibin but it's always size over quantity for me! Strangely v good size hor? I had a prawning catch up session with a friend and during the 1st hour we were hitting prawns like crazy.... I think all of our 20-30pcs of prawns were hit in the 1st hour. After that the prawns stopped biting! not pro also look pro! Good beer to go with prawning Does prawning require patience? As usual, normal prawning tips apply... prawn near the centre pump and sides will never go wrong! The prawns were cooked on the spot with the BBQ..... probably this is what most likely happens after every Singapore prawning session... ha...

Bishan Haibin Prawning Closing Down

Image
Received some sad news as it was confirmed by Haibin (Bishan Prawning) that they will be closing down their prawning ponds at Bishan soon. Their prawning facilities at Bishan are their biggest and most popular branch and will be fondly missed by many including myself. Not sure if they will release more prawns on their closing day or will they be "clearing stock" though. Prawn fishing must be a tough business! Here's the details... Last day of operation: 7th September 2013, 2359hrs They have other branches too at Punggol (6 Tebing Lane, #01-04, Singapore 828835, Tel: 64478693) and Jurong Birdpark (241 Jalan Ahmad Ibrahim / The Village, Singapore 629143, Tel: 62652598) Here's the official snapshot from their twitter/facebook

Prawning at Haibin Bishan [CLOSED]

Image
It's another prawning outing at Bishan Hai Bin Prawning and I was super surprised this time... because I was out prawned! Short rods mean less prawns actually as most prawns are at the middle of the pond! Another amusing thing during the prawning session was that there were people that brought scissors to snip off the prawn pincers before putting it into the net... I felt that this wasn't really requried because you can hold the prawn pincers together with one hand and take out the hook with the other. The prawn pincers are often neglected but big prawn pincers can really yield a tasty treat. We had a total of around 40 prawn. Hold the prawn pincers with one hand and impress your date! Needless to say, the prawns were bbq with salt...though I contemplated bringing some herbs. Lemon pepper and some oregano or dill should work wonders with the blue mountain prawns. After prawning and eating the prawns, I went with R to the nearby Beer Garden and we had a few beers...

Prawning At Haibin Bishan on Christmas!

Image
Over the festive Christmas and New Year period, I introduced some friends to prawn fishing over at Haibin Bishan (Address Details can be found on the link). Haibin Bishan is one the better places to try your luck at prawn fishing because of the crowd and longetivity of this prawn fishing joint. The fact that so many people do their prawning there means that the management will always release prawns so it's up to the individual to be skillfull enough to catch the prawns! I've heard lots of complaints about people not catching prawns there but I firmly believe one should first learn the basics and tips  of prawning before complaining! After parking our cars (it's free parking at Haibin Bishan btw), we made our way to the prawning area and some of my friends were suprised at how clean and "hip" the place was. There was a beer garden, zhi char seafood stall and even the fish spa thing. Frankly speaking, till this day I couldn't determine what's the diffe...

Bishan Prawning (Prawn Fishing) at Bishan Haibin (Closed)

Image
Amidst work and exams, one has to find a little play time to relieve those stressful thoughts that lurk at the corner of our minds. My mum had some ideas about bringing my grandfather on prawning trip on a Thursday afternoon to Bottle Tree Park at Khatib but I protested vehemently since I had a bad prawning trip at Bottle Tree Park once. The pond water level was shallow there and the prawning hook up rates weren't amazing. My mum was a complete newbie at prawning so in the end I suggested Bishan Haibin since I had decent prawning experiences there. Haibin at Bishan was also one of the more established prawning ponds in Singapore and had decent surroundings with a beer garden and fish spa. I made some time to accompany my mum and grandfather so that they can have some guidance and prawning tips. When we got to the place, I realised that the prawning rates had went up to $33 per 3 hours and also, there weren't any longer prawning rods to be had. Well, if you are a regular at...
