Singapore Fishing: Sam Law and Ah Fong Fishing Updates (2024)

Image
Combined Saw Law Fishing and Ah Fong Fishing Updates (2024) So the group managed to pull together some Sam Law and Ah Fong fishing trips (local Singapore fishing trips) over the past few months. I haven't managed to update due to being super busy, so posting a few photos to archive the trips! One of our most recent trips. Not fantastic size but decent quantity of snappers with Sam Law. Sabiki rigs were working too. It was my first time using sabiki the whole day and I was quite satisfied to catch a few fish. Jigs were working that day! Another angle of the fish Bad trip, not much fish... But I scored two snappers on jigs, jackall 100g :) Another one fell for the jackall 100g And a decent sized parrotfish for me! Jon caught a good stingray on abu conolon! The catch tanked that day though... Special guest threadfin! Greedy hybrid grouper took both our baits... Celeste with a monster mangrove jack... probably about 4kg Photos don't do the monster MJ justice... Also the discovery o...

Tuas Night Offshore Fishing with Wreckhunter

Image
Looks can be deceiving. This stingray turned out to be the food highlight of the trip. It had been almost two years since our previous squid fishing trip with Wreckhunter , so everyone was looking forward to catching some chomek. More accurately, we were looking forward to eating live chomek with Maggi. Fishing was almost secondary. We prepared our night fishing gear at the Republic of Singapore Yacht Club, commonly known as RSYC, before setting off for the waters around Tuas. Departing from RSYC brought back plenty of memories because I have joined many Singapore fishing charters from the club over the years. Tuas Night Fishing Trip Details Fishing area: Tuas, Singapore Departure point: Republic of Singapore Yacht Club Fishing charter: Wreckhunter Main target: Chomek squid Live bait: Freshly caught chomek Other catches: Stingray, green-eye squid, octopus and assorted fish species Preparing our fishing gear at RSYC before departing for Tua...

Sam Law Fishing for Sagai 2023

Image
Behold... on this trip, we had purposely sought out sagais because we were bored and wanted to just harvest fish. We were so desperate and only bought 1/2 kg of live prawns which we didn't really use anyway.  Lawrence the ang gao whisperer Ah Bao's "feather" Gao on jig! Caught it on feather! Strangely though, we caught all sorts of interesting reef fish before the "sagai" fishing started. Ah Bao even caught a coral trout on what he called "mao" or feather. We also used sabiki rigs to catch plenty of baby yellowtail barracuda aka kamasu. These are super tasty by the way, but it is a story for another day. When the current was about to pick up, off we want for sagai. Sam was fairly confident and recommended "long-line" and sabiki jigging. Long-line usually refers to a very long horizontal presentation (think 4ft of leader) with a feathered jig or hook at the end. One would just let it flow out and impart a jig stop motion to imitate flappin...

Sam Law Boat Fishing July 2022

Image
A standard day out with Sam Law It's been literally more than three months since this catch report on Sam Law but still not short of amazing. Sam Law has been producing super fishing catch reports over the last few years. He is one of the most consistent fishing gurus around in Singapore. This trip wasn't working too well for me as I was mostly doing jigging. But not too bad, caught a couple of groupers on jig and also a sweetlips (must catch because of the tee shirt). But Sam took the mickey out of me for not catching any snappers. Very fat fish! This was actually quite big at 1kg but not sure why photo so small Good gao The snappers were biting! Joshua on a roll Really easy fishing today with shallow fishing spots so we used small sinkers and light setups. Almost explode box Kaci t shirt of shame Some of the snappers were really good sized Good day! We had dinner at our favourite zhi char after Sam Law. One of the best steamed fish I have eaten in my life in and of Singapore!...

Trolling Fishing in Singapore

Image
Trolling in Singapore? You mad ah? Well, this trip started off this way and this was truly something we wanted to try out in Singapore. Batang (Spanish Mackeral) was a common catch in Singapore in the past and we still get the sporadic fish here and there but nobody in Singapore ever targets them specifically. This was what we wanted to do on this trip but it was a miss because we couldn't predict the weather. It was super windy and rocky that day and we quickly gave up trolling.  As for tide, I have had mixed experience with neap or spring tides for these fish. On some neap tides, these fish take jigs and lures willingly... but old birds always say spring tide for pelagic. Aiya, doesn't matter if got strong wind. Pick up some live baits to support our fishing also Most effective colour. Big Mac trolling lure. The real deal. Boon landed a fish! This was caught near Raffles Lighthouse :) Tried to pick up some fish and there Boon's got a fish! This fake barramundi was huge! W...
