Merchong Fishing 2024: Coral Trout and Food in Nenasi

Image
Ah, the great outdoors. Short of being a dryad, those four words beautifully describe fishing in Merchong and Nenasi . Then you add some beef, lamb, tapah, soon hock, coral trout and cuttlefish, and you have the complete Merchong fishing experience. We returned to Merchong in 2024 for another two-day fishing trip with new friends. Their target was the humble coral trout, commonly known among local anglers as ang gao. I call it humble because coral trout are relatively common around the Merchong fishing grounds. We do not need to travel all the way to Tioman, Jubilee Reef or even Pulau Berhala to find them. Catching these tasty red groupers can be quite predictable when the conditions are right. You just need some luck and a well-presented bait. Two Days of Fishing in Merchong and Nenasi Location: Merchong and Nenasi, Pahang, Malaysia Trip duration: Two days Main target: Coral trout, also known as ang gao Other catches: Snappers and assorted reef fish Fishing methods: ...

Didn't catch anything substantial this trip, mostly having fun with my eging rod.  The lads pulled up some decent fish although the overall catch wasn't fantastic. Bring Kids Fishing goes to Ah Fong's Changi Offshore Fishing!

Image
Wonderful day to be out at sea today as a friend brought his kid out for some fishing. The lad is totally into fishing and has wonderful sea legs. Bite rate wasn't that great but we had some fun fishing with Ah Fong. Those who know me will know that I am passionate about bringing kids out fishing but through the parents or guardians as it is more sustainable. Bringing kids fishing or teaching them fishing also shouldn't be about profit making, no matter how well you argue the sustainability case. Some things are better off like that. For Ah Fong Fishin contact, go to  https://baktao.blogspot.com/2021/08/7-recommended-fishing-charters-and-cost-sharing-boat-in-singapore.html Oh yes, after fishing, we had a great time eating some freshly caught fish!

Changi Beach Fishing Spot for Kids and Beginners: Car Park 2 Guide

Image
Read on for directions to this beginner-friendly Changi fishing spot. Wondering where to bring your child or a complete beginner fishing in Singapore? Commercial fishing ponds such as ORTO, D’Best and Gills are convenient options, but free shore fishing gives beginners a chance to test their equipment and learn at their own pace. I recently brought my kiddo fishing at Changi Beach near Car Park 2 . We were surprised by the number of small leng chiam, commonly known as red-eared emperor, around the area. During our short 15-minute session, we received plenty of bites and caught several small fish. Catch rates are never guaranteed, but this accessible Changi fishing spot can be suitable for a simple family fishing session when the conditions are favourable. Short visit to Ah Hua Fishing and Prawning

Image
They have pole fishing and prawning Clean pond and fairly spacious More pictures of the location Pole fishing! Go to the counter to get your rods Water is clear and you can see this prawn hiding in the hole lol Prawns are mostly medium sized. Resident parrot! Fish feeding at $1 per small bag. Not very economical to dump everything in lol We had some time the other day and went to visit Ah Hua Fishing on a weekday morning to do some prawning. I also brought the kiddo there to do some fish feeding and it was rather fun as Ah Hua also brought his parrot out for the kiddo to play. The way the place is setup is nice and laidback, with a bit of a kampong vibe and feels different from those urban prawning locations in Singapore. Some thoughts about the place: ➡️ Water is very clear. Can see many prawns. It is rather rare that operators will not add "colouring" to their pond so that people don't know how many prawns there are. Ah Hua's pond water is clear and you can literall...

Bringing Kids Fishing: Punggol End Jetty

Image
Had some free time during the school holidays so thought I would bring some of my church kids out fishing. Certain factors to consider when choosing a spot and eventually I decided on a "free" spot since pond fishing was costly. We chose Punggol End Jetty since it was nearby, accessible and relatively a safe place to do some relax fishing. There were also quite a bit of small fish to entertain the kids although I think other places like Labrador Park or Changi Boardwalk may be better fishing spots for kids because there are more small fish. After fishing we went to the nearby Punggol Settlement to have lunch... Perfect day! Oh yes, I also managed to do some eging and caught a nice green eye squid during the day. Hahaha... somethings just never change...

Bringing kids fishing to Pasir Ris Farmway 3 (Iwarna Catch and Release)

Image
A super long time ago, I started Bring Kids Fishing in the hope that I will be able to bring kids and parents out for fishing for a small fee for sustainability. I have decided not to continue with the commercialisation part of this simply because I saw another viability. Don't get me wrong, I'm still passionate about bringing kids fishing but the way it should done would be to inspire like-minded individuals all around the fishing community and beyond. Rather than relying on "Paid Lessons" and "Enrichment Classes", I prefer for parents to turn up on that day and learn themselves. I did not know how to do this at first but I got enlightened after this trip . The way to do it is simple. Start with your circle of kids and fishing community. Bring them fishing, teach them values, teach the basics. Then, they will bring others in time to come. It isn't that difficult and anyone can do it. So I gathered some kakis and brought some of the kids I knew... ...
