Contacts for Kelong Sotong Bait for Fishing UPDATED with pictures!

Image
Hi everyone, here in Singapore we are very particular about our bait. Tackleshops sell live prawns and live fish for bait. Another popular bait is "Kelong Sotong". The term comes from squid which are caught from the kelong. Usually these squids are smaller in size 4 - 5 inches and have not touched freshwater... This seperates them from the market squid. Fishermen here believe that the "smell" of the kelong squid attracts fishes and it is a must have bait for surfcasting or night offshore. Kelong sotong i got from Garry Chua.... notice the bright eyes Kelong squid is expensive but we still do not care about the price as all of us believe it is effective... Here are some contacts if you are going out fishing and need kelong sotong... Kerry a.k.a Shoreangler - 81823573 $30/kg. His stocks are from Bedok Jetty Garry Chua - 91833757 $25/kg. Free delivery Ian Chan - 97766626 $27/kg Sotong from bro JDM - 84444158 The above are all freelance sotong - men. Tackle...

Eging and Surfcast Fishing At Labrador Park

Image
I went eging and fishing during the 7 month "ghost festival" at Labrador Park. It's a really nice place but it's deserted now due to the 7 month. The previous day I only landed one squid there because the water was too clear and the squids were very picky... But this time, a friend was free and well since we had nothing to lose, we gave it a try anyway. We arrived just when the tide was changing and my first cast caught me a green eye reef squid! It was taken on a Yamashita warming jacket size 2.5 gold body. That got everyone's hopes up but it was not to be. Then, I got myself into some mess... I got my squid jig stuck on some rocks and was scratching my head when the top part of my rod (I was using a 2pc rod) came off and slid into the water and into the deep depths. Everyone was stunned. It was now close to high tide and the rod was in water that was above chest level!!! But i acted fast anyway and slid down into the cold water to get my rod and squid jig...

Daiso New Lures, Egi and Fishing Things

Image
Ok guys, i'm not sure if you are updated but Daiso at Jurong East IMM has brought in a good selection of new fishing items. I guess they are responding to the good feedback from their previous lures. Now they have brought in treble hooks(although i don't know how strong they are), jig heads, rubbers, some long profile slim minnows and new egi! Their usual crankbait, rattling vibe and small popper series now has a good range of colours. It's great to see this happening... hopefully they will have a rod and reel section next kekeke.. Oh yeah, i'm slowly trying to get rid of my squid jigs but i couldn't help but buy these ... too nice to resist omg... Oh ya in case you're wondering, Daiso squid jigs do work... I love them....they really copy yamashita well... See Daiso Squid Jig CR

Wreckhunter CR: 21 August 2011 Reunion with LG and The Golden Snappers

Image
Had a great reunion with some old friends... It was a trip filled with laughter and it was a first for some of the kakis onboard. Old jokes and old stories made up the trip. Our hopes were very low due to the Saturday downpour before we boarded the boat but suprise suprise... we managed to get some good fish although we had only 15 pcs small live sotong when catching sotong up to 12 midnite... We had to conserve our squid by digging out the eaten squid out of the fish mouth. One particular tiny squid caught 4 Ang Cho!!! Beginners luck was the story of the game. Two of our lucky kakis managed to pull up grouper and ang cho although they are first time on abang boat. On one occasion, the handle came loose on the reel! And on another one we had a case of a spool almost dropping out and that was when the nice sized grouper took the bait and we had to retrieve the fish using handline method with braided line hehehe... Also burst off some very big ang cho which took out line and cut th...

Here's a new place i found for prawning in Singapore and pole fishing for patin. I have not been there before but i heard the place has nice ambience and the pole fishing for patin is only at $4 per try. It's cheaper compared to those found at Jurong Birdpark, Punggol Riverside and Geylang Badminton hall prawning. Give it a go! They have beer garden, restaurant, conference room and even villas to stay in! Visit their site for more information!
