Desaru 22 November Before Season End...

This trip was organised very last minute and we almost couldn't go due to the monsoon finally kicking in. All kakis were on standby and luckily, our fishing captain called to tell us "GO!". We drove up to Malaysia Desaru via the Senai road and ulu tiram and went via the new expressway. Reached Desaru in an hour....

Had Roti Prata at the makan place and got the water, ice, makan... When we finally boarded the boat and we looked at the water.... Wow... it was gonna be a choppy day... It was a bumpy ride all the way to the lighthouse but once we got there, it's time for some light jigging action again...

Using our knees and butts to balance ourselves on the rocking boat, we got quite a couple of multiple hook ups... The Queenfish weren't picky today and you just need to work the jig moderately fast. They hit any jig you throw at them... but unlucky me i donated a few jigs to the Spanish Mackerals...

After lunch, we decided to move to a less choppy spot as the current was too choppy...good news we landed 20 over pcs of small sagai on sabiki and Jamie landed a 5kg Cobia.... Some fish for the tummy after all!

Fishing in Malaysia South China Sea will stop for the monsoon....season will open again next year march... let's go let's go!

Here's the short video...

Singapore Mano Wreck Fishing For Giant Grouper

So here it was, my first trip out to Mano Wreck with Captain James Ang Kong of Strikeforce. I have been hearing alot about this boat and captain from my friends and fishingkaki so when Clarence invited me, i couldn't say no.

Clarence lent me his setup of a Shimano Ocea Jigger 4000P and some heavy rods.... Tom was on a killersword PE 4 - 8 and Accurate 600N i think. We were all using mainline of at least 80lbs and leaders of 100 - 150lbs. Hook size minimum 8/0.

Tom went clubbing the night before so he went into the cabin right after boarding the boat. Wow, i must say that Strikeforce is a damn luxurious boat to be fishing on. It's big, comfortable, has beds and a nice toilet... Beautiful boat.

We went to get our baits for the day which are the usual baitfish at the buoys. Got us some neh buey and selar papan for the Giant Groupers. Captain Ang Kong tried live flower crabs on his last trip but this time couldn't get so we were a little sad.

Fishing for Giant grouper or gao tun is a waiting game. But the captain makes alot of difference in being hardworking and keep exploring different areas of the wreck. We manage to get 3 hook up and all 3 hookups came onboard the boat. Tom was the Champion of the day when he woke up around 1pm and got a 20lb Grouper.... the rest were just babies...

Me and Clarence got a big zero but hey that's fishing right? For me, it's about observing, sharing and having a good laugh.... Enjoy the pictures!

Ajiking Atom 500 Fishing Spinning Reel

I was window shopping around the geylang area the other day with Shawn and got this little beauty. Was visiting Sea Tackle and their closing down sale so i thought why not head down to Topgear Fishing tackles... I saw this cute reel at quite an affordable price so i thought why not get it... It's relatively smooth like a Shimano but doesn't feel as solid as a Daiwa...

I'll be using it for micro jigging and fishing for temensis/peacock bass. I don't know whether it's going to last...

It comes with a nice round knob and reel bag too...

SEA Tackle Closing Down Sales

Guys, im not sure if you got this news but Sea Tackle is closing down and today is the last day of their closing down sales. Sea Tackle is the sole agent for Ryobi and Yozuri products. It's a sad thing that they're closing down.... News it that Yozuri products are going off at 25% discount... I personally love the small Yozuri SS Minnows and small lures there... I also love the Yozuri Metallic Sardine Vertical... 30g Pearl... Nice!!!!

Fishing in Singapore is getting tougher guys.... more and more fishing tackle shops are closing down or moving out....

Saturday 12 November 2011 - Short Luring Mission

This is actually my exam period but i wanted to cure some exam stress so i checked with Shawn and he was ready to go... but we could only lure for 1 hour from 0630 hrs - 0730 hrs so we bashed in early and made full use of our time.

Shawn was a long lost kaki that over time i lost contact with. Such are the liabilities of a Singaporean man... NS, working to save up for marriage, women... etc. But i've recently got in touch with him and he has joined me in the world of luring. In the beginning, it was like bringing out a total newbie luring. He will do many stunts and leave me very confused. He is also super stubborn and like to buy cheap stuff. Hahaha...

But time passes and Shawn is slowly getting better although he has not landed his giant Toman. It will be another giant step for him once he does that. Right now, he still thinks his tiny setup can land the Toman but i told him he will regret it. Ok now to the fishing!

It was unexpectedly HAPPENING at this spot of ours. Small fish were jumping all over the place and big Tomans can be seen making surface ripples and coming up for air. There were a few fish getting whacked by the Toman. Shawn casted out a top water frog and BAM! A miss! I was putting trust in the Pencil that i got from Aseng. So far it had caught me decent fishes...

Walk the dog.... BOOM! A big Toman rose up to take the lure and make a big splash. FISH ON!!! Shawn came over and make some funny sounds... Sadly, only a 10 second fight.... As i tried to get it out of the weeds using Japanese style tug of war and funny sounds, the split ring gave way... No ordinary split ring mind you. Owner hyper wire 50lbs split ring and Owner ST 2X size 4 gave way! Man...! What a fish! Clipped on a Halco Roosta 38g and popped a way.... MISS ! BOOM! MISS!!! Aggressive fish was chasing the lure! Shawn had misses on his popper too...

It was getting intense but it died down a little... Put on a green pencil and tried the walk the dog slowly... Ka da bam! My pencil went under and fish on!!! Again, Shawn couldnt believe it and came over. Line kept going out as the fish tried to get into the weeds. At one point of time, my hand was on the spool to jam it and i was moving back as i played tug of war with the fish...  Finally i got it out.... it's only a small one at 8.5lbs but it was satisfying!

My first time doing a "kum" the rod with my mouth!

0730hrs came and we gotta go... We will come back the next day!!! Now for the question for my viewers....

We came back the next day on Sunday to catch the fish that were still on frenzy mode but guess what we saw. 4 foreign netters spreading their nets out along all the perimeters of fishing area. There goes our fishing for the day. If this is what they do for food, they gotta do it respectfully!

What we're pissed about is that these people DO NOT CARE about our fish. They will have lots of bycatch like sucker fish and what they will do is throw it on the grass to let it die. They bring home fishes from 500g - 8kg. They sweep the area clean of fish. In the 1 hour that we saw them netting, they have already gotten what we can catch in a day.

It is painful for a lurer like me who has been luring at that spot for ages already and releasing countless nice fish to see them being all brought up like that and thrown on the floor to be brought back...

I am already considering BRINGING back the fish i catch whether to cook or to release it alive into other healthy water bodies. But i am not doing that as i am being pragmatic. But really, young and budding lurers will be so discouraged...

So viewers, what do you think?

Desaru TU Lighthouse Extra Fast Light Jigging Video!

Desaru TU Lighthouse Season End 5 November 2011

Fishing in Malaysia is affected by the year end monsoon season...This season, the monsoon is here early and it's bad thing for us as our trip to Pekan Pahang got cancelled due to the strong wind and rain. But a few phonecalls away and we got ourselves on a trip to Desaru TU Lighthouse for light jigging and bottom fishing.

Alan just got back from Desaru and it was a Queenfish frenzy according to them. As usual, i prepared jigs from 30 - 60g and some metal tracers for the Tengerri. I am using Owner SJ51 Stinger Jigging hooks 2/0.

We had a good breakfast at one of the stopover and met up with our boatman Tekong Badol. The roti prata was great at this place and the funny thing was that once we met up with the boatman, we knew today was going to be a good day. From the way he talks to you, we can tell he will not be lazy and arrogant. It's hard to find a boatman like that if you know what i'm talking about.

We followed Badol to the beach where we're supposed to board the boat. Wow it was a nice beach and we drove on the beach slowly to park the car. After that we took lots of photos and the wide open sea made us excited... What will we get today?

We loaded the stuff and off we went. Next stop Desaru TU Lighthouse for some light jigging!

TU!

The moment we reached the place, we can see fishes jumping and baitfish getting hit by bigger fish. There are loads of Queenfish(Talang) all around us. That got our blood boiling lol.... beginning we tried normal fast jig but they won't take so we changed to EXTRA FAST JIG. You must jig until there is a "piak" sound at the water. Hahaha yup after we changed to that the fishes are hitting hard and fast. 3 casts will get us 1 fish if you work the jig properly. Apparently, the fish are all over the place but will get really excited only with a super fast jig fly through the water!

I got the first blood...

We kept landing fishes like nobody's business and tested lots of our jigs. My best jig was this one from Technic... it kept hitting fish till the metal bent. Hahaha!

After lunch all of us were sore and had enough of jigging so we turned to bottom fishing.

Whose foot?
Photobucket

Bottom fishing was slow and the fishes are not responding. We still managed to get some good eating fishes for the dinner table though... There were some biggies that took off... one of them making my rod and reel scream so much that i couldnt get it out of the holder... Eventually the fish cut the leader off the rocks. Another fish broke my friend's rod as the fish took off like a steam train...
