TP Fishing Tackle Run - Out

10 Aug 2008
Ah Long's

Too tired to write. Heavy rain and strong winds spoilt an otherwise enjoyable day. We went home early as we ran out of prawns. At least i managed to give my TP Tackle a run out today...

Grouper Fishing at Changi

27 July 2008
Ah Chong's

Was abit worried in the morning as it was drizzling but it all cleared up and we started doing our usual lines down.  Grouper, big kaci and ang chor all by her...I only got a table sized gao in the morning...haiz.... But action was quite consistent at the first spot... Double hook ups were common. The action faded in the noon...

But then again... in the afternoon after ah soon's wonder call, the feeding frenzy started and it was lo jiak lo jiak for awhile with me and unagi landing guhoots. That lucky unagi fellow landed two big gaos some more and everyone just look at him... Of course how to leave out ah ger and her tiger grouper ah...

Towards the end i managed to get one almost a kg gao and that wraps up the day! A good day with table sized gaos landed.

Oh ya forgot to mention...we saw an eagle ray approx 10kg leap out of the water just in front of us! It made a big splash and made the angler in front of the commotion stunned..we were just a few feet away from the ray! That really made our day...

Total catch...

Big Grouper at Changi Offshore Fishing

13 July 2008
Ah Chong's Boat

Berry funny build up to the trip...Why leh? Due to sad sad roger who cant go TP. The build up to the trip was funny as AC can't go for the trip and he had to opt out.

Then a few days before the trip, roger couldnt go TP with the guys as his leave was cancelled! Therefore...AC took his place! FUnny thing is that roger came with us
instead! Too itchy so bo bian... Also managed to poison another new kaki mondo to come and get poisoned together. Hehehe...

On first look, current should be very slack and easy going but strong winds today blowing up the water making it very murky but the sun was shining strongly and when we all let down our sinkers... Eh... Size 3 or 4 can liao..Hmmm... Seems like the wind is in our favour and pushing against the boat... If the wind was from the other side, sure layang liao lor...

Boatman was first to up the first and second fish... A small AC and small Guhoot. By now we were shouting KELONG! Then Weiyee's reel went ZZzzZzt and boatman thought it might be a threadfin as two threadfins landed the day before. In fact morning was threadfin hunting...Hehehe...But up came a decent sized Chermin with an even more suprised but still happy Weiyee.

Next up to get something was... (i cant remember). But after that the bite rate was pretty slow and i missed a good sized guhoot when i was dozing off... And so everyone recharge their batteries and were wondering when the fish went... When suddenly...

Then roger's turn to get a guhoot...That roger still can say this fish cannot pull my line one! Wah after that everyone auto mode liao suddenly wake up... But...nothing leh??!?!?!?!. Then come to drift over spot X and hmmm...somehow i put down a big prawn in search of mr gao...and wow goalkeeper gao over spot X...a decent 1kg...

Although quite a stale fight(gao heur lah..u know lah...living sinker) but still contented and very happy. Necro also managed to get an ang chor up and hopes were very high ah...

We went over to drift at SPOT X again... It was either SANGOAT or fish...as the coral outcrops there were many many ah! Then i heard a shout from the back...

So off we go drift over spot X again..and wahlao eh..almost instantly Cueball rod bending and we thought...hey hey its another Gao.. but after a long fight...and..Oh my its a big Ang Chor up! At 4lbs... Wahlao eh...sibe envious...got quality..got fight...wahlao...

After that we tried drifting over Spot X again but no more kang tao liao... Fish all go back sleep. Xris managed to land a Ang Chor at the end though... but ya...

FULL TIME SCORE IS...

6(2 released)xGao
4X Guhoot
4X Ang Chor
1X Chermin
5X Gelama and Kukup

Ah Long's Boat

After alot of rushing and sms-ing, finally mananaged to get 6 pax for today's trip if not chor ah! Met Boss Long @ 740am and chiong out liao. According to boss long, the fellas the previous day lost many ang kueys because they didnt fish properly. He said today maybe still have... Wah fingers itchy liao... ANG KUEY KOON!

After what seemed like ages, reached the first spot and lines down. Almost instantly i feel a nibble... Nibble nibble nibble then rod bent and lines going out.. OMG! Fought the fish on ultra light drag(havent set lah...How i know first cast kena) and it was pretty SHIIOOK! Up came a sizeable bright red ang kuey around 800g. Boss Long was the first to get excited but in the excitement, forgot to drop anchor..We drifted around but no more Ang Kuey koon!

A Nice Chicken!
Photobucket

Then boss long went back to original spot and parked... He pull his anchor and try to make a figure 8 formation around the spot... Finally, dio liao lah! Ang kuey again... This time we stay at the spot liao... But nothing leh... Boss long then tied a live ang kuey to the line and let it down..Saying it will attract the AKs to come...

Tying the ang kuey and let it sink down to the seabed
Photobucket

BUT BUT BUT! Who knows moments later... A grouper was landed ! How come AK attract grouper one! After that another ang kuey landed and all was quiet...

This time we proceeded to do some drift fishing but nothing good landed...

At noon, it was time to hunt Chermin at the Chermin spot... Lines down and almost instantly a friend hooked up a nice fish and fought it up.. CHERMIN! Wah at this point i thought ho seh liao... But hor...No more fish leh... Only later Boss Long brought up a good size guhood then all of us started fishing properly. Boss long even brought up a chow xi! At this point, alot of small nibbles and we were suspecting that they were chow xi... So i took up a spare rod, attach a tamban hook and put some prawn meat on it... cast it out...

Wahlao the moment i chuck my rod into rodstand, goalkeeper...The fish pulled and auto hooked itself... Rod bending and reel screaming...When i got the rod out of the holder, loose line! Reeled back to find the tamban hook bent! The fish got away! Suspected big chowxi or jio lor...

Have no fear, baited up and cast out again...Put the rod down and counted... 1,2,3...6... Nibble nibble and rod bent! This time, used very very little drag and fought the fish up.....Around 500g chowxi on light tackle..Hahaha...Pretty enjoyable... At the same moment, my parked rod went down and reel screamed! took my rod and got to fight the fish... Everyone was saying its a Chermin but when it came up its a big chowxi! Looks like a chowxi school below us....

The next moment, Vin also got his Chowxi and it was quite a nice fight... Baited up my tamban jig and casted out...But seems like no more chowxi..Got a jio lor... and after that was DURI FEVER!

BUT i must admit fighting duris on tamban jig is pretty good...Those duris can run(with light drag applied. Hahaha)

Last part of the trip ended with a very funny episode...friend hooked onto a fish with tamban jig and he suspected it was ah seng...so fought it up .. But when it came up.. Ang kuey! Good size around 600g...but when bringing it up, it dropped! Hahahahaha!

Overall it was a fun day with many almosts. Well i guess no silver carpet but a few chowxis is still better than nothing right.

Changi Fishing with Ah Fong

Ah Pong's Boat

Vin and new "GF"

Vin is bringing his new GF today to poison her into fishing... We all wondering what will happen. Ha Ha Ha...

By some strange miracle, all of us were early today and we started to board the boat around 745am. First thing Ah Pong ask me is "Want to go 40m spot?". Without thinking, of course i said yes lah... Normally, my preferred boatman Ah Chong cannot really go so far out because his engine not powerful enough... But with Ah Pong's good boat, it will be no sweat to hit out so far. Not alot of boatmans want to hit so far too... So Good of Ah Pong.

Must impress new "Gf" today if not stress...

Photobucket

I was pretty excited because 40m spot is a well known spot for biggies. In the past, i have been brought down to earth many times at that spot and what the hell... Thinking that it was just the usual Changi shit, i brought only my light tackle(size 3 wt max)... But have to make do lah.... What to do... All my pattern come out but today seems that i have no luck. No big fishes come to play with me at all!

Vin's new "GF" was not doing well at first... She hasnt fished before and is still trying to get used to new stuff. Vin was trying his best to teach her and i must say Vin was very patient.

CR wise? pretty bad leh... @ 40m spot, we arrived at LOW TIDE. So we must wait for water to move until going to become high then we might have good catch. During that low tide, all the lppl fish came to visit us but its okay, i knew it was always a waiting game...Cueball even landed a nice 1kg ACK(his drag never even make sound).

There were also alot of BIG xiao chou(sea kbl) that came to visit us too. Everybody was getting a few except me!

But then the unthinkable happened... A Storm blew our way and we were forced to leave 40m spot. $@#%!#$!@$.

So end up drifting around Changi Shit again...And this time, no fish at all! A bite here and there was all we had!

At last spot, Vin's GF finally managed to get a fish! And she got another later!

The weather was crazy today. When we started fishing, it was blazing hot. It was hard to fish at HCL... All the big ship moving around and very hard to fish cuz must upz line so much. No suprise here...No fish landed at HCL. Water was very calm at HCL area...Almost like a lagoon. I saw a few queenies jumping too.

Calm Calm
Photobucket

After that big big thunderstorm+wind force us to move inside Tie Pai. Inside Tie Pai worse... The winds forced alot of dirty muddy water inside and blew the mud from the bottom everywhere! We were like fishing in Teh Tarik water.

Teh Tarik water? Got fish bo?

But somehow we managed Two Ang Chor... After that caught one hell of a Flathead. Its quite fat and big! The weather worsen and the water really beh tahan...No bite for 30mins. I was like..." Alamak..Coral and Rock so much but water so dirty no fish biting ah!"... So i just bo hiu my rod and continue daydreaming. Who knows... "ZzzzZZzt! Wahlao Rod bend and chut suah... Slowly play and pump the bugger. Yet another Chermin for me! Song Bo!

Chermin
Photobucket

After that quiet liao. Storm went away and weather became super hot again. We managed a few Ang Chor too and after that my dad caught one Chermin with handline...

Sometime in the trip, Mr Pong remarked he thought he saw something fly into the water but dont know what... and asked whether i saw it... I didnt leh... So i just bo hiu... After the trip then i know what flew into the water. U guess?

Photobucket

Drifted around the "Secret Spot" and my dad had a strong pull which pull his handline right down. He reacted too slow and didnt release line resulting in the leader bursting! 40lbs leader bursting like paper! What fish was this?

Anyway at last spot, we were hoping for Guhoots to come but wahliao we encounter super big Gelama... All pregnant one...Wahlao eh.... Siao eh...

Anyway not a good trip but still enjoyed myself... Got Chermin come knock on my door... Ha Ha Ha...

Threadfin Salmon Changi Offshore with Ah Long

29 March 2008
AH LONG BOat

Today was a very heng heng trip as Kaix could not make it for the trip and i snapped it up. Activated the usual kakis but some unable to make it... But some could and joining us first time were DesT, Madfish, Nimo and Nimo JR! They added a whole new dimension to Changi Offshore! Fishing with long rods and floats for Queens/Todaks and Nimo actually hit one 0.0

Off to fishing!
Photobucket

Small nibbles filled the first part of the day but when we drifted near this breakwater dropoff, all of a sudden, feeding frenzy 0.0 . Almost everyone were getting bites. Vinyeo landed a Deep Sea Kim... After that Ah Long Strike a fish nibbling at his prawn... He thought it was a small fish but when fight halfway suddenly chut suah one 0.0. He ask me dive down to get his net...bahahaha... So i netted it up for him after kan chiong moments! Walao damn big Parrotfish for Changi size. I landed a smally grouper too!

Biggy Changi Parrot For Ah Long
Photobucket

Then Nimo JR aka Mr Richard had a strong pull! Wah! He also shocked and pump the fish up but when almost reach the surface, it got away! Suspected big Ang Cho by the gurus. Hmmmm.... That made Nimo JR all excited and he later landed a decent gao. Later, after commotion at the back i saw Madfisho fishhandling a Threadfin! Wahlao it came up surface liao yet he never give any sound.... When Ah Long got over he got a shock.

"Wahlao Ngo Heur le bo chut sia! Ka Kin gia net!"

Ah Chong

I had a bad trip on 18 March so i was determined to make up for the bad catch that day. Today i asked Ah Chong where we were going to fish. He say we are going Tie Pai to catch Chermin. I doubt whether have Chermin there but anyway just go lah might never know. He said yesterday 4 Chermin landed there so okay lah better trush Ah Chong he always kelong one.

Reached spot after SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO LONG and started dropping lines. A few small fishes were landed. Ang Kuey and Kaci was landed too. After that Ah Chong did the most kelong thing today! His leader line wrapped around a Grouper neck and the hook embedded itself onto the Groupers head! The grouper came up with no horse run @ almost 1kg size.

After that Ah Chong was saying how my ang kuey and small fishes cant beat his one catch. I almost came close to winning back my bragging rights a moment later. Ah Chong told us to up line but i had just put down my line. So i stop and reel in when sangoat! Eh? Cannot be lah... By then Ah Chong boat already moving... But suddenly my line cut throught the water. I thought maybe sangoat Ah Chong propellor but a moment later my line cut in FRONT OF ME! Cannot be lah! CHUT SUAH!!!! Ask Ah Chong stop boat and indeed it was a fish. By then, the fish already half dead due to Ah Chong boat power but it still gave me some fight on light tackle! A nice close to 1kg Chermin was landed by me!

Chermin
Photobucket

BUT STILL CANT BEAT AH CHONG KELONG MASTER! By now, Necro was pulling in leng chiam by the lots due to his dead prawn stinky bait. Suddenly, Weiyee's rod bent like it wanted to escape! His PE3 rod and Freams Kix Chut suah and he fought a battle with surely a Chermin! He reeled in and fought cooly... Once the fish hit the surface, its a big Chermin but suddenly the hook came off and everyone was shocked! OMG! Weiyee was more suaned... Whole day we suan him lost first fish somemore Chermin..bahahaha...

Fresh Sashimi!

This is what we do when we want FRESH SASHIMI

Yum.

Eging

Eging has always been a passion of mine which stemmed back to Secondary 4. Back then, there were no forums so i learnt eging the hard way. I dropped many squids and couldn't hook them up and i always went back empty handed while the ah laos had lots of catches. Now i see myself slowly overtaking those ah laos and finally i can call my own shots during eging.

Basically, Eging is catching squid using plastic/cloth squid jigs. These squid jgis are fake prawns and we anglers work them in a way such that squids think they are real ones. The squids then grab the jigs but then find themselves stuck as the jig has hooks! Interesting eh! Here are some catches over a few trips... I'll update the next time i go Eging...

Pan Fried Cobia Fillet With Lemon and Herbs

Since i caught some Cobia whilst at TP, i decided to give Cobia meat a go.

Take Olive Oil, 3 tbps of french mustard, herbs, dill leaf and marinate the fish fillets and in bowl. Marinate as long as possible for it to take in all the flavour.

Once reading to cook, melt some butter in a frying pan and once it is hot, add in the minced garlic and fry until golden brown.

Add in the fillets and fry. Use a spoon to spread the marinate when frying. Squeeze some lemon juice here if preferred or squeeze it when ready to serve.
